NNOI is an annual open air festival for experimental music in Großwoltersdorf, close to Berlin. Since 2016 the festival, organised by Column One’s Robert Schalinski, has seen line-ups of artists and musicians such as Limpe Fuchs, Christoph Heeman, Sigtryggur Berg Sigmarsson, Asmus Tietchens, Felix Kubin and Ditterich von Euler-Donnersperg (Uli Rehberg). The latter two artists, who took part in the first NNOI festival of 2016, have now been brought together on an LP, which was released on Robert Schalinski’s 90% Wasser label in March 2020.
NNOI#1 is a beautiful album all the way. The sturdy gatefold sleeve is the result of a collaboration of Robert Schalinski himself, who took care of the design, and German master draughtsman Frank Diersch, who provided the drawings. The LP itself is an extraordinary album, with Ditterich von Euler-Donnersperg’s previously unreleased wild beehive piece on one side and Felix Kubin’s soundtrack to René Clair’s 1924 film ‘Entr’acte’ on the other. The LP, with experimental sound pieces combined with a number of locked groove tracks, is a unique experience, the first in this series, in which according to the liner notes participants of the NNOI Festivals “gather and reveal the primitive anatomy that sinks onto the frosted glass of nature, like the printers blacking out in the letters of the newspaper.”
Forthcoming in this series are:
NNOI#2: Rashad Becker & Robert Schalinski
NNOI#3: Asmus Tietchens & Frieder Butzmann
NNOI#4: Air Cushion Finish
